20" x 4.5" Big Blue PP Sediment Filter Cartridge – 1, 5, 10 & 20 Micron

A polyspun sediment cartridge offers a simple means of filtration, ideal for use as a preliminary stage pre-filter within your Whole House & High Flow filter system.

They are made from spun bonded polypropylene, the manufacturing technique of these cartridges results in no centre core to the filter, thus not restricting the filter performance. The materials also provide a resilient barrier to bacterial/chemical influence – preventing any build of unwanted waste (e.g. algae).

These sediment filters are compatible with most liquids and are highly effective for sediment, rust, sand, silt, and algae removal.

Replacement of this cartridge is recommended approximately every 6-12 months, dependent on usage and the water quality.

The Aqua Blue H2O 20" x 4.5" Big Blue PP Sediment Filter Cartridge is designed for high-capacity sediment filtration in residential, commercial and whole-house water filtration systems.

Manufactured from 100% polypropylene (PP) using a melt-blown graded-depth structure, the cartridge effectively captures sediment, dirt, rust, sand, silt and other suspended particles while providing excellent dirt-holding capacity and reliable water flow.

Available in 1, 5, 10 and 20 Micron, allowing you to select the filtration level best suited to your water quality and application.

Which Micron Should I Choose?

Tip: A lower micron rating provides finer filtration but may restrict flow sooner when the incoming water contains a high sediment load. For most general-purpose applications, 5 Micron provides an excellent balance of filtration performance, flow rate and filter life.

What Does This Filter Remove?

This sediment cartridge is designed to mechanically reduce suspended particulate matter including:

Please note: This is a sediment filter. It is not designed by itself to remove dissolved chemicals, chlorine, taste, odour, heavy metals or microorganisms.

Graded Depth Filtration

Unlike a simple surface filter, the melt-blown polypropylene structure provides depth filtration, allowing larger particles to be captured in the outer layers while progressively finer particles are retained deeper within the cartridge.

Choosing the Right Micron Rating

Choose 1 Micron when very fine sediment removal is the priority.

Choose 5 Micron for most general-purpose applications and where you want a good balance between fine filtration, flow and cartridge life.

Choose 10 Micron when the water contains moderate sediment and a higher flow rate is preferred.

Choose 20 Micron for heavier sediment loads or as the first filtration stage before a finer sediment or carbon filter.

Multi-Stage Filtration Example

For water with a high sediment load, cartridges can also be used progressively:

20 Micron → 10 Micron → 5 Micron → 1 Micron

This allows larger particles to be captured first, helping reduce the sediment load on finer downstream cartridges.

Important: Actual flow rate and pressure drop will vary depending on the selected micron rating, incoming water pressure, sediment concentration, cartridge condition, housing port size, water temperature and other installation conditions. Replace the cartridge when water flow noticeably decreases or according to the maintenance requirements of your filtration system.
